Bow River - September 7th, 2006
Fishing Conditions
Things are starting to act like autumn on the river. The Rainbows are fat and spunky, the leaves are starting to turn color, the river is crystal clear, and fishing is pretty darn good. Small bead heads have been good (if fished deep enough), Caddis and Tricos have been around in good numbers with fish eating them, and streamers have been good on cloudy days (Don't bother on bright days).
The best news is about the good old Backswimmers (Water Boatmen). They are around in large numbers and the fish are eating them.
Hopper fishing continues to be inconsistent. Just when you want to give up it suddenly gets very good. They are generally more interesting to watch than orange balls on the water.
Hatches
Caddis, Tricos, Hoppers (a few), and Backswimmers.
Fly Selection
Streamers: Chamois Leech, Silvey's Sculpin Leech-Tan, Conead Bow River Bugger-White
Nymphs: Tung Stud Nymph, R/L Copper John, Red Headed Stepchild, B/H Pheasant Tail, Prince Nymph, Water Boatman (all of these should be fished in size 14 and 16).
Dry Flies: Blooms CDC Caddis, Silveys Dead Caddis, Wilcox AC Caddis, Quigleys Slice Above Stacker Hopper, Mo Jo Hopper, Hogan's Sipper.

Crowsnest River - August 9, 2006
Fishing Conditions
We keep hearing reports of very picky fish on very small bugs from the Crowsnest. If the technical fishing is to your liking you should head down there. We may see you there.
Hatches
We have been hearing about a very small (#20) PMD like mayfly hatching on the Crow of late. Fish have been eating it and are very selective. We will certainly advise which mayfly it is when we find out. Use very small emerger and stillborn PMD patterns.
Fly Selection
Nymphs: Tung Stud Nymph, Copper John, Spifire Nymph, Tailwater Tiny (all in very small sizes # 18 -#22)
Dries: Trina’s Bubbleback Emerger, Hogan’s Sipper-PMD, Etha Wing Dun-PMD, Spider Midge.
