Bow River Report - October 1st, 2007

Bow River report Fishing Conditions
The river has been fishing quite good in the past while. Hopper eats have been getting a little infrequent but generally still get a few every day. Lots of fish being caught on the bead heads under the hoppers. Streamer fishing has been fairly good, especially on cloudier days. Sink tip streamers have been the better bet on bright days. Water Boatmen are starting to show up in big numbers now. A Boatman pattern by itself, or behind a streamer is a good bet.

Streamer fishing remains good. Light colored flies and floating lines on cloudy days, dark flies and sink tips on the bright days.

Hatches
Pseudocloen, Baetis.

Fly Selection
Streamers: Clousers, Medusa, C/H Rubberleg Bow River Bugger.

Nymphs: R/L Copper John-Black/Copper #14, Tung Stud-Olive or Amber #14, Bloom's Tung Dart, Tungsten Soft Hackle, Peacock Water Boatman.

Dry Flies: Morrish Hopper-Cator, Chernobyl Ant, Wilcox Low Rider-BWO, Quigley's Loop Wing Dun-BWO.

With the rainfall we received last week many of the Forestry areas have re-opened to access but fire bans remain in effect. Many areas south of Highway 3 remain closed so make sure and check on closures before heading out. Anglers who fished the Livingstone/ Upper Oldman area late last week and into the weekend report good fishing.

Try Ant or Beetle patterns as well as slightly smaller BWO patterns over the next while in addition to the standard Hopper patterns

Caddis, Green Drakes, Hoppers.
