Cinco Rios Lodge - Coyhaique, Chile

In the winter, escape from the Northern Hemisphere and head south to the peaceful depths of Chilean Patagonia. When areas of North America, such as Alberta, are wrapped in a mantle of cold and snow, Chilean Patagonia basks in spring and summer warmth.

Chile is one of the safest, most friendly, yet isolated and hauntingly beautiful regions of the world. And Coyhaique, the capital town of the Chilean Patagonia region, is easily reachable. After only a 3 hour flight south from Santiago to the Balmaceda airport, you can be here, fly fishing in our paradise.

With us you will enjoy our Patagonian culture as much as the quality of our world-class Fly Fishing in Chile.

The season at Cinco Rios Chile runs from the first of November through the first week of May. The word awesome could very well have been created to try to describe this spot in the depths of the incredible Patagonian Andes.

Cinco Rios Chile surprises because of its diversity; it combines the best of Chilean fisheries; from the meandering spring creeks of the Patagonic Pampas, to the crystal clear waters of the western rainforest. All surrounded with spectacular mountains and peaks, heavily encased in glaciers, surrounding you protectively like a parent's cape, creating a very unique and picturesque ambient that allow visitors to experience the trip of a life time.

Out of Cinco Rios our guests fish for wild brown and rainbow trout, as well as king and Coho Salmon. We are proud of the all we have to offer; fascinating landscapes; a world class fishery; luxurious accommodations; and gourmet Chilean food; a fine selection of Chilean wines and beverages (included); and very experienced and bilingual guides.

Rio Simpson

It is probably the most famous river in the Aysén region; the Rio Simpson tends to fish like classic Montana freestone and has significant caddis and mayfly opportunities. Browns and rainbows from 14-22 inches are your usual catch. However, trout up to 30 inches have been caught on a fly. King Salmon run this river from early January through mid March. We've taken Kings from the Simpson that push 45+ pounds. Our Lodge is located right on the Simpson River banks, then on top of enjoying the most gorgeous views of the Simpson river with the Andes peaks as a background, you will be able to finish a great drifting day right at the lodge, where the Pisco ours will be waiting for you.

Rio Paloma

The Rio Paloma is a river that begins in Desierto lake and runs northwest until it meets the Rio Desague about 15 miles away. A glacial freestone flows iridescent blue water and provides fantastic dry fly and streamer action. Predominantly a brown trout fishery, the introduction of rainbows in the late nineties has proven to be a success. Fish from 14-23 inches are taken from the crystal, clear Paloma. We generally drift at the Paloma River.

Rio Azul

Located between Lago Azul and Lago Desierto, the Rio Azul is accessible by boat as it gets you into a remote area. Flowing beneath the shadows of Cerro Castillo (Castle Peak), it is probably one of the world's most beautiful fishing locations. Browns from 17-21 inches are quite common with larger fish to be taken. Jet boats take you to and from the Rio Azul, however, we prefer to wade once we arrive.

Rio Desague

The Rio Desague (Drain River) drains Lago Elizalde and runs for about five miles until it enters Lago Caro (Expensive Lake). Within this short stretch of river are browns and rainbows 17-23 inches with many larger trophies lurking in its depths. Jet boats will run into this remote river for some spectacular scenery and dry fly fishing.

Rio Emperador Guillermo

It is one of the jewels of the area, there are many pools and riffles loaded with hungry trout, averaging 12 to 16 inches, sometimes over a 100 fish a day.

Other Rivers that we fish:

The Mañihuales, the Toqui, the Boca de León, the Coyhaique, the Huemules etc.

Cinco Rios activities off the river

Peaceful and secluded, the Rio Simpson area is a birdwatcher's paradise for Andean condors, Chilean Southern-ringed kingfishers, eagles, ibis, torrent ducks, and parakeets.Indigenous wild plants abound; bamboo, fuchsia, lilies, honeysuckle, nasturtium, lupine and mammoth rhubarb only begin the list.

Nature's wonders abound for fly fishers, photographers, and hikers. You encounter glaciers, tropical flowers pollinated by bees, and temperate rainforests without the dangers of poisonous snakes, spiders, and other creepy-crawlies.

The city of Coyhaique is loaded with excellent shops and restaurants and offers a nice break from fishing to explore town, grab lunch, or enjoy the café. There are also professional river rafting guides in the area, an endless number of hikes, mountain biking, and the more photographic opportunities than you can imagine.
