Babine River Steelhead - Babine Norlakes Lodge
We were introduced to this fishery in the Fall of 2006. Located on the Upper Babine, Babine Norlakes Lodge is as good as it gets. Camp owners and hosts, Pierce and Anita Clegg, offer a fly fishing vacation second to none.
Started in the 60’s, this lodge is steeped in history and Pierce will delight you with old fishing stories told by the evening campfire.
Babine River Fishing
We found good numbers of steelhead with some in our party finding fish up to the low 40” lengths, stunning scenery, very knowledgable and professional guides, they have it all. Catch rates are exceptional at Babine Norlakes and there are world record steelhead to be found in these waters.
Norlakes accesses the Upper Babine with specially designed aluminum jetboats which are comfortable and practical for the angler.
Fishing is done entirely from foot with the angler being dropped off to fish various runs throughout the day. These fish can be caught on both dry and wet flies, in fact the guides are all dry fly fanatics and love nothing better than to guide you into a steelhead on the dry fly.
Your day starts with coffee or hot chocolate brought to your room, followed by breakfast in the dining room, and then out on the boats at 8 AM, fishing until around 5 PM. Your guides will help you throughout the day with their knowledge of where the fish are located, suggested fly patterns, techniques, etc. These guys are experienced steelhead fishermen that really know these fish and their waters.
